My "select surfaces" is not active. How does this work?

I have a thin plates STEP drawing. i can select nodes and elements but no surfaces.
If i select an element and then select surface he selects the whole object.

The surface picking is not possible in Z88Aurora for plates. Instead, choose a mesh of hexahedrons or tetrahedrons to use the surface picking.
