Comments on AURORA V2

Beitrag von selopez »

Good day AURORA Team

In a general context of congratulations for AURORA V2, and recognition of your commitment to achieving excellence in the FEA software realm, let me please make some respectful observations:

As announced, nodes picking has incorporated several new features but, also, evolved to a kind of BC administrator, that's what I find the most interesting and useful. To get the same functionalities in V1 I used to edit the input files, compose them, save in other folders, etc. So you can imagine how glad I am for the BC management features of V2.

Concerning the picking tools themselves and their relationship with BCs definition, I believe that more direct and mistake proof paths, could be good. E.g., if Pressure is selected, surface picking would be the default, and so on. Showing finally all the sets of BCs in the same place, in order to compose calculations. Then, if different combinations of BC sets could be calculated, it would be also good, in my opinion, that calculations don't replace each other so that their results can be compared.

There are several features of V1 that I miss at V2. In order of importance (for me), they are:

a) After meshing, to receive information about number of E, K and, if possible, of KOI. I think that this data would be accessed through the "Mesh Info" window.

b) The Statistics of the calculation outputs, with the possibility of export them.

c) To see at the monitor window the counting of iterations when SICCG or SORCG are running.

d) At the postprocessor stage, the features to show the model without the mesh and for adjust the scale.

The tools for control the part's colour and its lighting, are certainly welcome. A unified way of defining colours and some preset arrays of lights would be also good. The clipping tool is outstanding.

Finally, in my opinion, the most important features included in AURORA V2, are certainly the new calculations. I'm particularly interested in the nonlinear one. However, I need additional information (or knowledge) to manage it. I ran several trials, sometimes with odd results (deformations increase and decrease along the path). I have several doubts, but the main one is if the stress variation can be exposed. At the trials I did, this wasn't show.

I sincerely hope that some of these observations can be useful for you. On the other hand I'd like to thank you all again for your efforts.

Best regards.

To save the results of a calculation, you can copy the relevant project. File> Save As
Then recalculate.

The information about number of elements or nodes are not so difficult, but the new Version don't know KOI, this ist only for the solver.

The statistics function has been removed.
selopez hat geschrieben: c) To see at the monitor window the counting of iterations when SICCG or SORCG are running.
To have more text on the console, remove the entry "QUIET" from the file Z88.DYN. This delay, however, the calculation, so this is enabled by default.

You can adjust the scale with the slider on the right side in the post menu.
Why you want to see the model without the mesh in the post. I do not see the need.

I would like to thank the Z88 team for producing such a wonderful piece of software. As advertised, I have been able to download, install, watch through a few video tutorials and successfully create, analyze and evaluate a simple test case of my own. It is very intuitive. It is a far cry from the FEA programs I wrote in graduate school or MSC Nastran I used for years back in the 80’s and 90’s.

Thanks.

Just to also praise the V2 documentation.
I struggled alot with V1. But when the V2 came out, even without the english help files to guide me i made much better progress. Now i have downloaded the 'English' version with english help files etc. Gone through the Help files / Video's /Spider / Spider PDF's etc - its all very clear how to proceed - new users, you'll be happy with this program especially if like me, you're new to FEA :D .
Many Thanks Z88 team.

You are welcome :D For me it´s nice to know that someone really reads the manuals and uses the SPIDER. It was a lot of work, creating all the additionally icons and documents for the spider help.

Thanks  , aurora_ico

Don't know if you want any publicity :P...

But I'm doing a little project for fun on a couple of other forums and wrote a post concerning your software.

Nochmals vielen Dank fuer Ihre Hinweise.
