halting on "Find elements surounding element!"
Hello,
I have a problem whill opening projects when the structure is gettin loaded.
read nodes, read elements, find ele... , time.. are all ok
but on "Find elements surounding element!" it freezes.
what happens?
also when i know before the project was succesfull with full results and everything.
I'm not able to re-open it again because i get the same problem.
any solutions?, what can i do?

Hello frans,
i noticed this problem some times ago on a very old and less powerfull computer running Windows Vista 64 bit. The same old pal worked fine on this structure running Windows 7 32 bit. Thus, if your structure is very large and your computer is a bit short of breath - give Z88Aurora time for this procedure, just wait a bit. If this won't work:
Can you give us some informations concerning your problem:
- what Z88Aurora version do you use? --> use V2a.
- what type of computer, i.e. number of CPUs and amount of memory
- type of operating system
- size of your structure, i.e. number of nodes, elements and dof.
Be sure that we'll fix the problem.
Regards
Prof. Rieg

Re: halting on "Find elements surounding element!"
Hello Prof. Rieg,
i'm using version 2.0 (aug 9 2012 16:10:16) but i'm downloading now the latest 2a version.
I think i got 4 cpu's, it's saying Xeon cpu w3550@3.07GHz and 18gb ram in windows system info
windows 7 64 bit
where can i find info about the structure exactly?
this comes from the structure file and are the highest numbers
358635 3 +1.065455e+002 -1.406731e+003 +1.960495e+003
1178539 17
352679 352680 343372 358518
thanks for your fast respond.
edit:
i have installed version 2a.
but now it stops after "find elements connected to one node!"
i'm using tetgen to mesh my step files.

Hello frans,
info on the structure can be found in the corresponding z88structure.txt in your project folder.
The first line shows the following information:
[number of dimensions of the structure, usually 3] [number of nodes] [number of elements] [number of degrees of freedom]
Further information on the z88structure.txt can be found in the theory manual, chapter 3.

Felix Viebahn

Hello Felix,
Thank you for the info.
the z88structure.txt reports:

any thoughts?

Re: halting on "Find elements surounding element!"
Hello Frans,
your system specs should be more than enough to deal with the ~1 Million DOF. Does it really stop or do you abort the process after 30 secs? When you have a lot of processes running in the background, even a seemingly fast PC will have a problem opening bigger structures. So make sure to close all unneccessary programs und wait for a couple of minutes to assure that Z88 truly stops working.
If the problem persists (and if it's legal!), you can send me your structure file or send me a download link and I will have a look at it (felix.viebahn(at)uni-bayreuth.de).

Re: halting on "Find elements surounding element!"
Hello Felix,
Ok, so the size of the structure is the problem.
I can reduce the DOF's easy by removing some structure.
That solved the problem.
thank you!

Re: halting on "Find elements surounding element!"
Hello frans,
that´s perfect! By the way, do you try to simulate one single part or an assembly? Because Z88Aurora can only simulate single parts.
Best regards,
M. Frisch
