Torque/Moment load application

Beitrag von peterpoon »

Hello,

I am learning to use you the Z88 software and I am wondering if it is possible to implement a torque/moment load on nodes as a loadcase. I don't find this possibility in the list.

Thank you

Hello Peter,

generally you can setup 6 degrees of freedom per Node:
1 linear X-axis
2 linear Y-axis
3 linear Z-axis
4 rotation X-axis
5 rotation Y-axis
6 rotation Z-axis

For each degree you can adjust:

1 force/moment
2 displacement/rotation degree

Some example:
8 1 1 21870 # Node8 X-axis(linear) Force Value21870
9 4 2 0 # Node9 X-axis(rotation) locked
10 5 1 1000 #Node10 introduce Y-axis moment of 1000 (no unit)

In each case you have to be sure, that your element handle moments.

Best greetings,

Hanne12

Hello Peter,

hanne12 is absolutely right. Currently, only the structural elements can handle moments. Radial boundary conditions for 3D-elements are not available.

Thank you for your responses.

Do you have an idea if it will be available for 3D Elements in the next version of the software ?

This is not a question of Versions. 3D elements like tetrahedron only have 3 degrees of freedom. For boundary conditions you have to convert moments in forces via lever arm.

Thank you,

Is there 3D element available in Z88 that could manage 6dof loads ? If not, is it existing ?

Hi peterpoon,

no, there is no volume-element with 6dof. Neither z88, or in other fea-tools. At least I've never seen. As auroraico said: There is no need to use torques in volume-elements, because they must change their shape to accommodate a bend. And this change can be sufficiently described with three coordinates.

Kind regards.
