Can z be up?

Beitrag von patrick »

I am using a CAD system, where Z is up. Can Z be up, or does Y have to be up?

Hi Patrick,

you cannot change the coordinate system within Aurora. Can't you rotate the model around the x-axis with 90 degrees before importing it?

with best regards

thanks - I will rotate it, and then rotate the results back again
just wondering of there was a simpler way

I am still not sure about this...
playing around with aurora a bit more makes me think that it makes no difference
i.e. if you want z to be up, then you just make you loads in the negative z direction
can anyone confirm this?
is there anything in aurora that assumes that y must be up?

Patrick,

you're absolutely right. I misunderstood your question perhaps. I thought you wished to have the z axis in the display plane for convenience reasons. Sorry for that.

best regards

Hello Patrick, hello Jochen,

it is right. It doesn't matter, how your model ist positioned in Z88 Aurora. If your model is not positioned in the way you want, you can adapt the loads and bc's.
