Re: best practice for modeling plate.
Hi Frans. On the sized plate of steel 1000 L x 100 W x 25 D and using a force central of 800 N, the usual formula gives max deflection of 0.6095mm. Doing this hand calc is much faster than FEA and it give a simple indication( if the geometry was more complex) if the LBC's are correct and nothing sil...

Re: best practice for modeling plate.
Dear Frans. About the best written, easy to read / comprehend, technical book i've ever come across. :) I NEED TO GET OUT MORE! However the math is at too high level for me - I've been out of constant education for some time now  But the 'Message for the Chapter' is like a cold flannel...

Re: best practice for modeling plate.
Hi Frans. Thanks for your reply. When you say Plates and Shells what thicknesses do you mean? Also, importantly what is the ratio of the thickness compared to the surface area? Generally ( and if anybody else thinks differently please put me RIGHT gently), i attempt to put 2 layers of meshing betwee...

Hello Frans. I'm not Aurora support, but just another Aurora user try to help you. I'm very much a practical user. I don't model / stress 'thin plates' directly,so sadly i can't offer you expert advice on that subject. However, for Aurora in general i'm very happy :) When i compared 'classical' beam...

Hi Selopez. Good to talk to you. Thanks for the update on Netgen 5. I will load it up asap although as the mesher, Netgen 4 is already doing a great job! Concerning the possible shortcomings of not having an 'igs/stp / topology doctor', It is possible to load in Netgen 4, analyse/heal etc. and save ...

Re: tetgen meshing alternative
Hello Frans. edit: Fran, you particularly mention 'thin walled' parts. If you're referring to sheet metal parts i understand it is normal to extract 'mid planes' and use a surface mesh without 'volume'. I can't say exactly what Aurora can do in this situation, you have to see the theory manual -sorr...

Hello M. Frisch - may i call you 'M'. Anyway, thank you for the further explanation in translating the Profs book. Yes, i can see clearly the big problem of screenplots and pictures etc. and it is not , the most interesting of work to do either - well it wouldn't be for me. I would be very pleased t...

Hello FRudolph - WOW 600 pages. Gee, that's too many to read yet alone translate  ! Of course I will be very patient... without any doubt in that case :) . In the mean time i will purchase the German book as its a reasonable cost and obviously very good value. There are many excellent , reall...

Re: Neues FEA-Buch erschienen!
Is there any news of an English translation of Prof. Frank Riegs recent book -FEA for engineers 4th edition. There was a discussion with your publishers, about a possible English version being available sometime around the end of 2012. Is there any update on that? Regards and a big 'thank you' for v...

Re: Netzstruktur unregelmäßig / irregular mesh
No probs Viv- it certainly does help to get a few good pointers and talking of pointers... Prof. Frank Rieg mentioned last summer (seems a very long time ago given the UK's start to spring!) they were in talks with their publishers concerning an English translation of his recent new book - FEA for E...

Re: Netzstruktur unregelmäßig
Viv. Oh i'm very pleased - but really it's all down to Selopez. Drop him a thank you sometime. There is quite a lot of experimenting with Netgen to get better surfacing meshing. BUT, oh boy is it worth it! Take a look at: Mesh>Meshing Options>Mesh Size> Max , Min and the Grading ( top pane.) Also: G...

Viv, The above comment about SolidWorks constantly changing their output i have also heard from another source. I have a CAM package called OneCnc XR5 - every single year even the .sld (?) SolidWorks native file output ( or so i believe) is slightly altered so i need a revised translator to be able ...

Hello VIv Hallo-Apologies wie ich nicht sprechen oder schreiben Deutsch. Ich hoffe, eine deutsche Übersetzung vollständig verstanden und klar. Sorry i can't write this in German. Others have struggled over getting a good .stl into Aurora. There are many good rules such as removing fillets and chamfe...

Hello TAH1712, one possibility for picking nodes is to press the ctrl-button on your keyboard and press the left-button of your mouse. You can see futher information and tips at page 18 of the userguide. :) Best regards. Michael Frisch Thank you Michael - that works very well. YES, i should have re...
